Glossary
Family Law – I (Hindu Law)

As used in this case, performing a marriage with ceremonies in proper form. The judgment says the word solemnised means to perform the marriage with ceremonies in proper form, and that until a marriage is performed with appropriate ceremonies and in due form it cannot be said to be solemnised. Source: Section 7, Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.

Real-life example

The two pilots got a certificate and a State registration on 7 July 2021, but performed no ceremony. The Court held no marriage was solemnised, so they were never married under the Act.
