Saptapadi — సప్తపది

"Saptapadi" literally means "seven steps" — the ceremony in which the bride and groom jointly take seven steps around the sacred fire. Under Section 7(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, where a couple's customary rites include Saptapadi, their marriage becomes legally complete and binding at the moment the seventh step is taken.

"సప్తపది" అంటే అక్షరాలా "ఏడు అడుగులు" — వధూవరులు ఉమ్మడిగా పవిత్రాగ్ని చుట్టూ ఏడు అడుగులు వేసే వేడుక. హిందూ వివాహ చట్టం, 1955లోని సెక్షన్ 7(2) కింద, జంట ఆచార కర్మలలో సప్తపది భాగమైతే, ఏడవ అడుగు వేసిన క్షణంలోనే వారి వివాహం చట్టపరంగా పూర్తయి కట్టుబడుతుంది.
