Glossary
Environmental Law

Forum non conveniens is a Latin phrase for the rule that a court may decline a case because another court is a more suitable place to hear it. A United States court used it to send the Bhopal suits back to India.

Real-life example

Villagers in one country sue the foreign parent of a local factory in the parent's home court. The court says the evidence and witnesses are all in the villagers' country and sends the case there.
