Constitutional Law-I

The power to make laws on matters not covered by List I, List II or List III of the Seventh Schedule. As used in the case, Entry 97 of List I gives this power to Parliament. Source: Rev. Stainislaus v. State of Madhya Pradesh, as described in the judgment.

Rev. Stainislaus v. State of Madhya Pradesh.

Real-life example

Rev. Stainislaus argued that the Madhya Pradesh anti-conversion law dealt with religion, so only Parliament could make it under Entry 97 of List I. The Court held that the law was about public order, a State List subject, and not under Entry 97.
