Damages are the money compensation that the law awards to a party for loss caused to him by a breach of contract. Section 73 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872 speaks of compensation for loss or damage that naturally arose from the breach or that the parties knew to be likely, and not for remote and indirect loss.
