Cruelty — క్రూయెల్టీ (క్రౌర్యం)

Glossary
Family Law-I

As used in this case, cruelty is a ground of divorce under Section 13(1)(ia) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The Court said the Act does not define it. It means conduct that endangers living together, physical or mental, and it is different from the ordinary wear and tear of family life.

Real-life example

The wife's allegations, even if proved, showed only her sensitivity to the husband's conduct. The Court held they were no more than ordinary wear and tear of family life, so cruelty was not made out.
