Procedure Established by Law (చట్టం ద్వారా స్థాపించబడిన విధానం)
The Article 21 standard for depriving a person of life or personal liberty — originally read narrowly (any procedure enacted by a validly-passed law), now read to also require that the procedure itself be fair, just, and reasonable.

A law authorising impounding a person's passport must not just exist on paper — it must also give that person a fair opportunity to be heard before or soon after the impounding, per Maneka Gandhi v. Union of India.

A.K. Gopalan v. State of Madras (1950) originally gave this phrase its narrow reading; Maneka Gandhi v. Union of India (1978) overturned that, linking Article 21 to the reasonableness standards of Articles 14 and 19.

Often confused with the American "due process of law" standard — India deliberately chose the narrower phrase "procedure established by law" in 1950, but Maneka Gandhi has since brought its practical effect much closer to due process, without formally renaming the standard.
