In the law of negligence, a close and direct relation between the person who acts and the person affected. It is not only physical nearness. Source: Lord Atkin explains that it extends to relations where the actor knows a person will be directly affected by his careless act.

Real-life example

A manufacturer seals ginger-beer in an opaque bottle for a consumer to open, with no chance of inspection by anyone in between. The consumer is in a proximate relation to him.
