Glossary
Law of Contract-I

As used in Dick Bentley Productions v. Harold Smith (Motors), a set-off is a sum the buyer claims as damages and deducts from the amount the other side claims from him.

Dick Bentley Productions v.

Real-life example

Lord Denning said Mr. Bentley could claim damages of 60 pounds for breach of the guarantee and set that off against the dealer's claim for 60 pounds.
