Freedom of Conscience — అంతఃకరణ స్వేచ్ఛ (Freedom of Conscience)

Glossary
Constitutional Law-I

The freedom guaranteed to all persons by Article 25(1), together with the right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion. In Bijoe Emmanuel, the Court tested a claim under it by asking whether the belief is genuinely and conscientiously held.

Real-life example

Three Jehovah's Witness schoolchildren stood respectfully but did not sing the National Anthem, because their faith forbade the singing. The Court held that expelling them violated their freedom of conscience.
